Henry Brown and Cameron White have delved into the history of an iconic Russian pistol of the Cold War. The Makarov entered service in 1951. The Russians opted for a round called the 9x18 Makarov. This allowed the gun to use a simple blowback design like the Walther PP rather than the lock breach design of most handguns. The pistol saw service in most Eastern Block militaries and police forces and many developed their own pistol chambered in the 9mm Makarov.The book provides a fascinating insight into the pistol's development and adoption by the Russians. It also covers the pistol be licensed to be manufactured in East Germany. The East German's made some adaptations of their own but stuck to the basic design. The book does not go into the Bulgarian or Chinese licensing for manufacture, nor does it cover the independently designed pistols made by Poland, Hungary, or Czechoslovakia that chambered the 9mm Makarov.The book is a good addition to the library of firearms historians who are interested in Soviet Era weapons.

This book is fantastic. If you have a Makarov Pistol this is a must have book. Very well illustrated, covering the history, serial numbers and markings, and disassembly guide. Good job Mr. Brown and Mr. White

I own and shoot an E. German 1962 Mak. Learned more about the gun and it's markings. An interesting read and study of Russian and GDR manufacturing of the guns.

Lots of interesting pictures. Lots of interesting information. Lots of spelling mistakes in the first few pages even. Overall worth the buy unless spelling errors bother you a great deal and that may ruin your experience. lol.

Full of information on my favorite pistol. Book is well written and has lots of pictures and information pertaining to the Makarov pistol. If you own a Makarov or want one, you need this book!

A lot of good info written by people who are well respected very knowledgeable collectors. The Makarov deserves its own book.

This book covers the Makarov pistols from both countries very well. It's a great addition to my reference library.

Excellent book, good information on the Russian & East German Makarov looking forward to reading the 2nd volume.
