I was waiting for Bethie's story. She was the baby of the 3 little girls Jessie brought to Texas trying to escape the mother of her dead mean husband. Teagan McMurray took her and her girls and loved them as his own. I loved Tall, Dark and Texan (you should read that first). Anyhow Bethie was a girlie girl and a little spoiled. Andrew was a writer who happened upon Chestie Paterson & his gang of train robbers. He saves Beth's life after she sneaks on the train to surprise her Senator fiance but she gets the "surprise" instead. The story is sweet & heartwarming; Beth found she had a strength and compassion she didn't know she had. Andrew went along with the make-believe marriage so she could escape the Senator. Andrew also found his compassion and strength when he and Beth took 2 little lost boys, a young cowboy (Colby) and a young pregnate girl (Madie) along to Ft Worth. There's suspense, gunfights and humor when Teagan and his brothers get involved. Colby and Madie's love story was so sweet and beautiful; loved his advice to her. Hope there are more stories from Whispering Mountain Ranch. Diamondgirl
Promise Me Texas is the 7th book in the Whispering Mountain series by Jodi Thomas. I've read them all, and all are first rate reads. Jodi Thomas not only writes an enchanting romance, but she also includes a suspenseful plot which she begins almost at the beginning of the book. Beth, the youngest of the daughters of Teagan McMurray, has grown up and is determined to meet her intended bridegroom in Dallas for a secret wedding. She is disillusioned by the attitude shown by her fiance' to others, and changes her mind about the marriage. An attempted train robbery and wreck, throws her into a relationship with another. There are several plot twists and another group of interesting characters which are artfully crafted into this enjoyable book. Oh!... and don't forget the cast of characters that usually dwell on the Whispering Mountain Ranch. They are all present, as well. This is a great read. Some of the dialogue has you laughing right out loud! The sub-plots which are woven in are imaginative and touching. You can't go wrong buying and reading this book!
I have all of the Whispering Mtn series and have reread some. It is a pleasure to read the ongoing story of the McMurrays. I remembered Bethie's initial interaction with Teagan and it made me smile. Jodie Thomas writes wonderful historical westerns, I think I have read all of them and consider them keepers. This story is not action packed, but still held this readers attention. There are two additional characters that definitely add to the story, Colby and Maddie. Maybe we will hear more of their story. This author always has a supporting cast worthy of their own story. If you are a fan of this genre, you will really enjoy all of her novels.
From the first pages of the book, the reader is caught up in a fascinating tale that takes us back to over 100 years ago. What I like most about Jodi Thomas' writing is that her stories are never predictable. Her characters are deeply developed. I enjoy the way she weaves history into fiction and recurring historical themes remain through her books. The love interest always grabs my heart, and no matter how many times I see the classic love formula, her treatment of it leaves me with a wistful glow.
I loved getting back to the brave McMurray family of Texas and whispering mountain. A wonderful read that keeps you reading all day instead of grading papers... no regrets AWESOME book that melts you up to date in what is happening with the McMurray's' I loved Jodi Thomas western historical books.Not a fan of her modern to day western as its just not my interest. But lover her historical- go ahead and purchase and read the day away! Become enchanted as you feel that you are in the room with them!
This is another sweet Texas historical romance. Andrew and Beth are a great couple. Beth is the youngest girl and has been a bit spoiled. She has has a lot of suitors but none that want her for herself. After his wife died Andrew has just drifted along writing in his journals. Then the two are thrown together and pretend to be married. Look of some good laughs, some great characters, and a really good story with more than one romance.A good addition to the Whispering Mountain series.
I loved this book in the printed version and decided to buy the Kindle version to have it available for a re-read later. The story is a typical Jodi Thomas book with action, people realizing how they really feel about someone and a wonderful end wherein all comes out in a good way. One of favorites in her of "Whispering Mountain" Series. They all are great and show life in Texas back in days of it becoming a state in a growing country - the USA!!
If you read Jodi Thomas's books. Read the whole series they are wonderful. You fall in love with her caharacters and don't want to leave them hanging.
